Pioneering 9th Grade Curriculum Collaboration in the ASD

I am thrilled to be a part of the TESST Project. I have taught social studies, specifically 9th graders, for the past 8 years and four of those have been with my English team partner, Regina Dietrich. We were lucky to have been assigned to each other when our school, South HS, opened in 2004. We have similar energy and enthusiasm in the classroom and we both of a desire to work creatively with students. We have received a lot of positive feedback from students and parents about how their experience in our class was fun, yet challenging. That's the best compliment anyone can ask for! We are very excited at this opportunity to take our teaming to the next level and we appreciate the training and the time we will receive to work on planning and curriculum for our 9th graders.

I have had some training in technology, but I remain a basic user of all technology. I am excited about the new tech avenues we will be exploring and what kind of exciting projects we will be able to do with our new knowledge and materials. I have had little formal training in teaming. Regina and I were selected to go with a group of ASD principals and teachers to training on "Best Practices" in Washington DC three years ago and we took some worthwhile information from that. We have received a lot of support in our continuing desire to team from our administration, but of course, we lack the time to do any "big time" collaboration. Our teaming is basic, but I like to think that it is more than most are doing in high schools around the district. Even so, we like the challenge of a new opportunity and a new experience for our students so we are always looking to improve.

I look forward to meeting and collaborating with everyone.

I, too, am excited to be involved in TESST, and to get the opportunity to be more involved with programs like My Access. I think my students will enjoy it as well.

I also think my response to the question is very generic, but I'm off to football practice, so SSS/LLL (testing who knows their internet jargon :P)
